Pollution Characteristics, Sources, and Health Risk Assessment of Heavy Metals in the Surface Soil of Lushan Scenic Area, Jiangxi Province, China

Heavy metal pollution at tourist attractions centers has caused widespread concern. In this study, the concentration of seven heavy metals (Pb, Cu, Cr, Zn, Ni, As, and Mn) in surface soil Lushan scenic area was measured, their characteristics were assessed using Nemerow comprehensive index geo-accumulation index; further, human non-carcinogenic carcinogenic risks evaluated by U.S. Environmental Protection Agency health risk assessment model. Correlation analysis, cluster a positive matrix factorisation model used to analyse sources. The results indicated that concentrations did not exceed threshold levels. hazard quotients for six As) are below risk, whereas region is an “acceptable” level; however, because high contribution residents require continuous monitoring. Analysis revealed sources pollutants: parent material, altitude, accumulation organic matter, industrial dustfall, local activities (life agriculture), tourism.
